After being diagnosed with advanced Cervical Cancer at the age of 25, and having to undergo a Radical Hysterectomy, Tamika Felder founded Tamika and Friends, Inc., a national non profit organization. The mission of Tamika and Friends is to raise awareness about cervical cancer and its link to the human papillomavirus (HPV). HPV is considered to be the most common STD in the United States. Some studies estimate that 85% of the sexually active population is exposed to at least one or more types of HPV. Because HPV is so prevalent, a person need not have multiple sexual partners to contract this virus.
